THE JUDGMENT OF GOD

Romans 2:1-16

I. THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S JUDGMENT  

A.      (v.3-4) Two penetrating questions

1.      (v.3) Do you think you can escape God’s judgment?

2.      (v.4) Do you think you can disregard God’s goodness?

Key words: despise – to think lightly of something and therefore disregard

                     repentance – a change of mind which produces a change of attitude and results in a

                                               change of direction  

B.      (v.5)  One plain statement – “You are treasuring up for yourself wrath”

II. THE BASIS OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

A.      (v.2) God will judge according to truth

B.      (v.6-10) God will judge according to our deeds

**IMPORTANT – Good deeds are not the cause of salvation, but the effect

1.      (v.7,10) Those who show evidence of being a believer

2.      (v.8-9) Those who show evidence of being an unbeliever

C.      (v.16) God will judge according to the gospel

III. THE UNIVERSALITY OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

      *v.11 – there is no partiality with God

A.      (v.12-13) Those who have greater light will be judged

B.      (v.14-15) Those who have limited light will be judged

v.16 – This passage ends with THE GOSPEL, which is GOOD NEWS!
