THE GREAT COMMANDMENT

Matthew 22:37-40

Faith Baptist Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and love others Biblically by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I. (v.37-38) LOVE GOD SUPREMELY

*Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 6:5

• Who? The Lord your God
• What? Love
• How? With all your heart, soul, and mind
• A simple definition: A passion to please God

2. Two necessary ingredients

a. Faith (Hebrews 11:6)

b. Obedience (John 14:15,21)

• We are to love God internally
• We are to love God completely

II. (v.39-40) LOVE PEOPLE SINCERELY

• Who? Your neighbor
• What? Love
• How? As yourself (Luke 6:31)

A simple definition: A selfless concern for the well being of another, even if they don’t deserve it

Conclusion: The greatest example of this love is Jesus Christ, and the greatest demonstration of it is the cross.
