LISTEN AS THE MASTER PRAYS (Part 2)

John 17:6-10

An overview of Jesus’ prayer:

1.  (v.1-5) Jesus prayed for Himself

• That the Father would be glorified
• That the Son would be restored

2.  (v.6-19) Jesus prayed for His present disciples

• Jesus acknowledges to the Father what is true
• Jesus requests from the Father what is needed

3.  (v.20-24) Jesus prayed for His future disciples

(v.6-10) Jesus acknowledges to the Father what is true:

I.  DIVINE SOVEREIGNTY - WHAT THE FATHER HAD DONE

     Key phrase -  “whom You have given Me”

1. The Father had chosen these men
2. The Father had given these men to Jesus

 II.  DIVINE REVELATION - WHAT JESUS HAD DONE

1.  (v.6) “I have manifested Your name to the men”
2.  (v.8) “I have given them the words which you have given Me”

III.  HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY - WHAT THE MEN HAD DONE

1. Evidences that they belonged to Him
2. One notable exception – Judas

1. They received the Word
2. They knew it
3. They believed it
4. They kept it

Conclusion: “I am glorified in them”
