BE OF GOOD CHEER! IT IS I

Matthew 14:22-33

I. (v.22-25a) THE STORM – OUR DIFFICULTY IN TRIALS

  • (v.22-23) From the perspective of Jesus, there was a definite purpose
  • (v.24-25a) From the perspective of the disciples, there was a difficult problem

  • It was inconvenient
  • It was unexpected
  • It was hard
  • It was long
  • It was all in the dark
  • They seemed to be making no progress
  • They seemed to be alone
  • They had been obedient

II. (v.25b-28) JESUS – OUR HOPE IN TRIALS

Jesus spoke to them, saying . . .

  • Be of good cheer
  • It is I
  • Do not be afraid

III. (v.28-31) PETER – OUR REACTION TO TRIALS

  • (v.28-29) When Peter trusted the Lord, there was safety
  • (v.30a) When Peter looked at the storm, he began sinking
  • (v.30b-31) When Peter called to the Lord, he was saved


Conclusion: (v.32-33) “Truly You are the Son of God”
