Be of Good Cheer! It is I
BE OF GOOD CHEER! IT IS I
Matthew 14:22-33
I. (v.22-25a) THE STORM – OUR DIFFICULTY IN TRIALS
- (v.22-23) From the perspective of Jesus, there was a definite purpose
- (v.24-25a) From the perspective of the disciples, there was a difficult problem
- It was inconvenient
- It was unexpected
- It was hard
- It was long
- It was all in the dark
- They seemed to be making no progress
- They seemed to be alone
- They had been obedient
II. (v.25b-28) JESUS – OUR HOPE IN TRIALS
Jesus spoke to them, saying . . .
- Be of good cheer
- It is I
- Do not be afraid
III. (v.28-31) PETER – OUR REACTION TO TRIALS
- (v.28-29) When Peter trusted the Lord, there was safety
- (v.30a) When Peter looked at the storm, he began sinking
- (v.30b-31) When Peter called to the Lord, he was saved
Conclusion: (v.32-33) “Truly You are the Son of God”
