Romans 13:1-7

I.  GOVERNMENT IS A GOD-ORDAINED INSTITUTION

1. (v.1-2) God ordained the authority of government
2.  (v.3-4) God ordained the purpose of government

1. To punish evil
2. To promote good

II. CHRISTIANS HAVE A GOD-GIVEN RESPONSIBILITY

1. (v.1-2,5) Be submissive
2. (v.3) Do good
3. (v.6-7a) Pay taxes
4. (v.7b) Show respect

1. Because of wrath – the fear of consequences
2. Because of conscience – the fear of God

Conclusion: What does living this way say about us?

1. We understand, respect, and live under authority
2. We will try to do the right thing
3. We will work hard and pay our way
4. We are respectful of all men, even those we disagree with
